Families transitioning into The International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL) are welcomed into a warm community, with care and empathy at the heart of our culture. Known as the Panthers, the community encompasses students, parents, faculty, and alumni, all of whom contribute to the vibrant, multicultural tapestry that is ISKL.
ISKL’s focus on a strong school-parents partnership is visible from the get-go. ISKL actively encourages parents, from the outset, to become involved, embrace their new environment as they are introduced to it, and become familiar with all aspects of the school. The process of transitioning may be daunting or challenging for many families, but ISKL, true to its Panther spirit, is well-versed in understanding and actively undertaking the responsibility of ensuring a smooth transition.
As a non-profit educational organization, ISKL relies heavily on the involvement of its parent-elected Board of Directors. This team embodies diversity and consists of a truly international collective of cultures, nationalities, personalities, and areas of expertise. Each component of this network reflects varying perspectives and significantly impacts students achieving academic and emotional success while helping nurture them to become future leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs.
When parents are actively involved in their children’s education, show interest in their daily activities, and engage in their school community, studies reveal that the extensive benefits experienced by individual students include an increase in confidence, emotional well-being, and academic performance levels. ISKL facilitates this interaction in several ways to aid parents' involvement through:
Volunteering
This is especially easy and appreciated at ISKL, whether for an upcoming concert, sporting or fundraising events, during in-class activities, or even hosting international students. All volunteering opportunities offer parents a direct in-road into connecting with our diverse community of families, staff, faculty members, and students.
The Parent Teacher Association (PTA)
This parent-led organization bridges the gap between parents, administrators, and teachers. Working alongside the Admissions and School Leadership Teams, they are a friendly resource that significantly impacts the well-being of all new community members. Initiating contact, they easily make connections and acquaint themselves and fellow parents through small gatherings, events, and social occasions to make them feel welcome and settled into Kuala Lumpur.
Parent-Led Workshops
A carefully curated range of parent-led workshops is available throughout ISKL’s academic year. Their main focus is on informing, connecting, and establishing unity within the parent body, and they are receptive to the needs of new and evolving families. By attending any one or a number of these workshops, parents can explore their own needs and those of their families and/or children while building new friendships and benefiting from its all-inclusive community culture.
Board Member
ISKL’s Board of Directors is composed of a diverse and select group of current parents that are voted and elected to the committee by fellow parents. They represent more than 65 nations that shape ISKL’s international network.
ISKL is more than an educational institution; it's a close-knit community that supports and uplifts one another. The collective experiences of the Panthers contribute to the rich diversity and dynamic learning environment that sets ISKL apart.
The school now invites you to hear stories of transitions that mirror your own, of challenges faced and overcome, of the joy of discovery in a new culture, and the camaraderie that makes ISKL a home away from home by connecting with Panther today.
